Nigerian Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has been declared under arrest by the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, for assaulting a police officer. On Saturday 13th April 2023, Seun Kuti had been captured on video aggressively slapping a policeman across the face as well as shoving him off on the third mainland bridge. The video recording whicj was originally shared by a TikToker with the username Stephen Solademi, has since gone viral and led the IGP to demand an immediate arrest of the singer as well as a full investigation as to the cause of assault. In response to the call for his arrest, Seun Kuti had put up a post on his official social media platform stating that he welcomed the investigation and would give his full support and cooperation to the Inspector General of Police. It is currently unknown why Seun Kuti chose to physically assault an officer of the law.

Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti popularly known Seun Kuti, is a Nigerian musician, instrumentalist and the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Seun leads his father's former band, Egypt 80. In 2018, Black Times by Seun Kuti was nominated for the Grammys, in the World Music Category. This makes him the second child of the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti to be considered for this award, as his elder brother Femi Kuti had been previously nominated in the same category without a win.
