A 41 year old Dutch man identified as Jonathan Jacob Meijer, who fathered over 500 children has been formally banned from donating sperm as a result of concerns he might be increasing the risk of accidental incest among his offsprings.
A Dutch court on Friday 29, April forbade Meijer from continuing to donate his semen to clinics.
Meijer, who is a musician will now be required to ask clinics in other countries to destroy any of his semen they may still have, excluding samples previously reserved by patients who already conceived children with him.
A donor children rights Non-governmental organisation (NGO) and the mother of a kid he allegedly fathered had reportedly taken Meijer to court, with the UK Guardian reporting that Dutch guidelines say a donor mustn’t father more than 25 children in 12 families.
At the court sitting on Meijer's case, the judges said the man had helped produce between 550 and 600 children.
