Princess Diana’s Jewellery To Go On Sale For £10,000,000 To Raise Money For Ukraine

The late Princess of Wales, Princess Diana, owned a set of diamond and pearl earrings and a necklace that will be auctioned off next month, according to the Telegraph UK.

Diana allegedly received the jewelry, which is expected to sell for up to £10 million, from Dodi Al-Fayed. Diana wore the necklace at the Royal Albert Hall gala performance of Swan Lake, her final public appearance before her death in 1997.

According to The Telegraph, a Ukrainian family has owned the set since 2008. This is reportedly the first public auction for Diana's privately held jewelry.

When she was a member of the royal family, the Crown lent her much of the jewelry she wore. Before the jewelry is auctioned off in New York next month, it will be on display in London.

'While many outstanding individuals fade from view, Princess Diana remains as lively now as she was when she was in fact the most admired lady on the globe,' said Arlan Ettinger, president of Guernsey's Auctioneers.

‘The Swan Lake Suite was especially made for her. She was part of the design process. ‘It is thought to be her only jewellery to have ever been sold, making it extraordinarily important. ‘There are many people who have described it as priceless but we have given it a very broad estimate.’

Jim McIngvale, an American businessman, paid just under $1 million for the jewels in 1999, but after the 2008 financial crisis, he sold it to a Ukrainian family who are ardent supporters of the royal family.

Mr Ettinger added:

''The war in Ukraine has been a motivating factor in them deciding to sell the Swan Lake Suite now. They have had them for 14 years but given what is going on, their thoughts are now very much on rebuilding their country.’

The necklace was made from 178 diamonds totalling 51 carats and paired with five matching 12mm South Sea pearls.
