The February 25th Nigeria's presidential election has remained controversial and its outcome illegitimate to many Nigerians who doubt the credibility of the process especially as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to follow it own rules of engagement.
Rivers State remains the most referenced bane to the credibility of the February 25th, 2023 Nigeria's presidential election. In its report, the BBC Africa claims to have unraveled massive electoral fraud in Rivers State.
This is not surprising as the River's state governor, Nyesom Wike whose switch of allegiance from his People's Democratic Party presidential candidate to that of the eventual winner of the presidential election, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, required that he prove his loyalty to his newly formed allegiance with the APC even at expense of his party.
Interestingly, the official declaration of the INEC's returning officer for Rivers State for the presidential election, is in total contrast to the electoral choice of the Rivers People in the 2023 presidential election.
According to the BBC report, there is massive discrepancy between the results announced by the Officials of INEC and what is available on INEC result viewing portal.
"We added up the voting tally sheets from over 6,000 polling stations in Rivers state, where many of the opposition complaints had been made.
"While the official result in this state gave a clear majority to Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), our tally suggested that Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) had actually received most votes in the state by a wide margin", reported.
It is being speculated that the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike influenced the outcome of the February 25th presidential election to better his relationship with Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the eventual winner of the presidential election.
