Lovers of Hausa films, popularly known as "Kannywood" have been thrown into grief as one of the most beloved Kannywood stars, Aminu Muhammad popularly known as "Kawu Mala" passed away on the evening of Sunday 7th May, 2023. According to reports, the actor had prior to his death, battled a protracted heart-related ailment. Mala left behind a wife and over 10 children. He was buried on Monday morning at the Haye cemetery located in Nasarawa local government area of Kano state, in accordance with Islamic rites.

In the course of his acting career, Kawu Mala was known for his role in the famous TV series 'Dadin Kowa' which aired on Arewa24. He also featured in many other films produced in the Hausa language where he sometimes doubled as producer. Kawu Mala was reportedly active in the film industry for nearly two decades with his death described as "a great loss that has created a significant void in the industry." Mala will be remembered as someone who made significant contributions to the development of filmmaking in Northern Nigeria. May His Soul Rest in Peace
