Court Remands 21-Year-Old UNIZIK Graduate For Swindling $220,000 From A German Man

 Cynthia Chioma Atuonah, a 21-year-old Nigerian model who was detained in April on suspicion of scamming a German of $220,000, has been ordered to be remanded in a Nigerian Correctional Facility by Justice Yelim Bogoro of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos state. Atuonah was arrested in April. 

According to the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU), Ikoyi, Lagos, detained Atuonah for allegedly scamming the 50-year-old German national of $220,000 after offering to wed him.
According to SP Eyitayo Johnson, the unit's spokeswoman, who announced the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, the suspect deceived the victim on Instagram by pretending to be in love with him and making a phony commitment to wed him.

The suspect, a 2019 Economics graduate from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, claimed to be a model and the owner of a massage parlor called The-Chi-Place. She ensnared the 50-year-old victim on Instagram by pretending to be in love with him, winning the victim's trust and goodwill.

The suspect (Miss Atuonah Cynthia) convinced the victim to travel back to Germany in order to sell his house in Stuttgart and send the proceeds, along with his pension and life savings, to her domiciliary account in a bank. This was done with the intention of buying a house in Nigeria where they would live as husband and wife and to establish a joint business venture, as stated in the bank transfer narration.
