Legendary singer and Queen of Rock, Tina Turner, has passed away at the age of 83. The music icon died on Wednesday 24th May 2023,at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, near Zurich. She had suffered ill health in recent years, being diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and having a kidney transplant in 2017. In a statement, the singer's spokesperson said: "Tina Turner, the 'Queen of Rock 'n' Roll' has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model."
Born Anna Mae Bullock, Tina Turner was an American-born and naturalized Swiss singer, dancer, actress, and author. Widely referred to as the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll", she rose to prominence as the lead singer of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue before launching a successful career as a solo performer. Having sold over 100 million records worldwide, Turner was one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. She received 12 Grammy Awards, which include eight competitive awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Tina Turner was twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, alongside ex-husband Ike Turner in 1991 and as a solo artist in 2021. She was also a 2005 recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors and Women of the Year Award.
