A magistrate court in Gidan Murtala, Kano state, has ordered the owner of a noisy cockerel to have it slaughtered. The Magistrate Court passed the judgement on Tuesday 4 April 2023, after two neighbours of the poultry bird's owner filed a complaint with the court. The neighbours claimed that the bird’s constant and loud crows disturbed their sleep as well as the peace of the neighbourhood. Isyaku Shu' aibu who owned the reportedly noisy cockerel had confirmed to the court that his poultry bird was indeed noisy and he had planned to have it slaughtered even before his neighbours reported him to the court.
The presiding Magistrate Halima Wali, ordered Isyaku to have his noisy cockerel slaughtered as soon as he left the courtroom. Shu'aibu however pled for leniency and urged the magistrate to extend the slaughter date while promising that the cockerel would be killed on Good Friday. The Magistrate, Halima Wali had concurred with the suggested date and ordered that the poultry bird be kept in a cage until 7 April 2023(Good Friday) which was agreed upon as slaughter date.
