Pandemonium ensued at Queen's College, an all girls' federal unity school located in Yaba, when the college suddenly became engulfed in a fire outbreak on Sunday 16 April, 2023. According to reports, the fire started in a two-room boys’ quarter located behind the Staff quarters of the girls' school. The affected rooms were simultaneously used as lodging quarters and a store. Director, Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, while stating there was no recorded casualty as the fire service sprung into quick action in order to mitigate damage. Margaret Adeseye further revealed to the public that the cause of the outbreak is yet unknown.
Queen's College is one of the leading federal unity schools in Nigeria with a student population of over 5,000 as well as 300 teaching and non-teaching staff. The school is a single sex day and boarding for girls between the ages of 10 and 17. The college was established on 10 October 1927.
