Former Nigerian head of State and civilian president, Olusegun Obasanjo has written to the Central Criminal Court, United Kingdom over the conviction of a Nigerian-serving senator, Ike Ekweremmadu and his wife on trafficking a 21 year old Nigeria to the U.K for organ harvesting.
In his lengthy letter addressed to the Chief Clerk of the Central Criminal Court, London, Obasanjo reminisced his relationship with the embattled senator of the Federal Republic Nigerian. He recounted his decades of national service as a senator, deputy senator, Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament as well as his humanitarian aides and services.
Obasanjo further condemned Ekweremmadu's act for which he was convicted in the United Kingdom, describing it as an act which should have no place in the modern society. He added that the senator as well as his wife has learnt from their recent experience.

In his conclusion, the former Nigerian president appealed to the Chief Clerk to intervene in Ekweremmadu's case putting into consideration the relationship between Nigeria and the United kingdom so that the court will temper justice with mercy. He added that Ekweremmadu's daughter's health condition which requires urgent medical care should be considered in the sentencing of his two parents whose care she needs at this point.
