Former secretary of the government of the Federation, Ayim Pius Ayim has countered claims by Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike about his (Ayim Pius Ayim) opposing Peter Obi's emergence as the vice presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 presidential election.
Wike had during his press conference on 22nd of March, 2023, described Peter Obi as being unappreciative of his political assistance to him. He explained that he was pivotal to Obi's emergence as the party's vice presidential candidate in 2019 especially as some prominent Igbo politicians comprising governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state, Ayim Pius Ayim, Senator Ike Ekweremmadu were against Obi's emergence as the party's vice presidential candidate.
In his response, Ayim Pius Ayim accused governor Nyesom Wike of falsehood. He explained that he neither opposed Obi's vice presidential position nor discouraged it at the several meetings held in respect to that. According to him, he did not attend any of the meetings and did not confide in Wike his preference for or against Peter Obi at that point.
