Wike Finally Admits why He Supported Tinubu, Gives Critical Reason

River state Governor Nyesom Wike yesterday spoke on the implication of the recent presidential election for the South-south state.

He said he and the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state worked for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, to win the February 25th, poll because they want the power to return to the south.

Tinubu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), triumphed over the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party (LP) counterpart, Peter Obi, during the 2023 Presidential election.

Rivers state, despite being led by a PDP government, contributed to Tinubu’s victory.

The River state governor spoke during a stakeholder’s meeting with 48 APC support groups and PDP governorship candidate, Siminialaye Fubara, in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, March 15.

“Why we supported Asiwaju is so that power should return to the South. Whether Asiwaju or Peter Obi, for us the next president must be a southerner in the spirit of equity.

“Again, Rivers state is reconnected again to the federal government. Within the last eight years, it has been a war. Rivers state has been at loggerheads with the Federal Government and we said, no, this war cannot. So, for us in Rivers, he (Wike) has reconnected us back to the mainstream of governance in this country, “he said.

In his remarks, a leader of APC in Rivers state and coordinator of the Tinubu/Fubara support Groups, Tony Okocha , said the APC support groups in Rivers state will be voting for the PDP governorship candidate, Siminialaye Fubara, to reciprocate Wike’s support for Tinubu during the presidential poll.
