In an interview with Sunrise Daily, a programme aired on Channels Television, the Labour Party's governorship candidate for Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has emphatically stated that governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu gave the military orders to shoot protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate during the EndSARS protest on October 20, 2023. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour stated that the army has repeatedly confessed that governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu invited them to the Toll Gate and gave the order to shoot the protesters.

On the other hand, governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has repeatedly denied every involvement in the Lekki massacre. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour explained during the interview that as Chief Security Officer of the state, it was impossible for the military to invade Lagos without Sanwo-Olu's knowledge or permission.
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour further asserted that despite governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's claim of there being no casualty at the Lekki Toll Gate, he's confident that Sanwo-Olu visited Reddington hospital and saw the bodies of slain protesters. The Labour Party's governorship candidate for Lagos revealed that there existed a great deal of evidence to disprove all of the incumbent governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's lies or denials.
