Reactions trail report by an Australian newspaper on the victory of Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the just concluded Presidential election in Nigeria.
Tinubu, a less popular candidate in a controversial election, was declared the winner of the February 25th presidential election at the expense of the more popular candidates: Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party respectively. The election which was adjudged as lacking transparency and credibility by some international observers, has raised many questions why the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) failed to follow the regulations for the conduct of elections in the Country.
Interestingly, while reporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu's electoral victory, an Australian newspaper described the veteran politician as a drug-trafficker who emerged the president of Nigeria through a controversial means.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has incessantly denied trafficking drugs in the past; an allegation he has not been able to disprove over years. Hence, being linked to drug trafficking by a prominent International newspaper is considered a taint on the image of the exalted position of the Nigeria's president.
