The Nigerian presidential and Federal legislative elections which were held on February 25, 2023 have produced some results. Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner.
We are taking a look at the upper chamber of the National Assembly and how the political parties fared.
Before the February 25 polls, 55 of the 109 Senators failed in their bids to secure return tickets from the various party primaries held in the country. Some lost the primaries others aspired for higher political offices among other reasons.
The current members of the 9th Senate will have their tenure expire on June 11, 2023, with the 10th Senate to be inaugurated immediately. Out of the present 109 Senators, only 30 of them won re-election.
Below is the party spread of the new Senators.
The All Progressives
Congress APC has the majority of the senators-elect with 51 seats
The Peoples
Democratic Party PDP has 27 seats
The Labour Party, LP 7 seats
The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, three seats
The Social
Democratic Party, SDP, has two seats.
The Young
Progressives Party, YPP one seat
The All Progressives
Grand Alliance, APGA, one seat.
