A family's wedding celebration was turned into mourning in Bhavnagar City, India when a bride named Hetal died of heart attack during the marriage rituals. Shortly after Hetal's death, her family suggested that the groom Vishnal Ranabhai, married her younger sister so they could go on with the ceremony. The original dead bride's body was kept in a cold storage for the duration of the ceremony and cremated after the marriage had taken place.

Corporator of Bhavnagar city and leader of Maldhari Samaj, Laxmanbhai Rathore described the incident as "very sad". He said even though the family was shocked by the sudden death of their daughter, members of society convinced them to set an example and not send off bridegroom and his family empty handed. Many have harshly criticised the ''unfeeling" replacement of the deceased Hetal with her sister, with Indian female advocates on social media labelling the family's selfishness as proof of how replaceable and disposable girls are in Indian society.
