Breaking: INEC Postpones Governorship and Assembly Elections to 18 March

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is reportedly set to postpone the governorship and state assembly elections hitherto scheduled to take place on 11th March, 2023. The postponment is as a result of the Electoral Commission's inability to promptly commence reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines which had been previously used during the presidential election which was conducted on 25th February, 2023. Nigerians anxiously await a press statement from the Electoral Commission.

The Appeal Court had earlier granted the Independent National Electoral Commission permission to reconfigure the BVAS machines. INEC was also previously restrained from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until due inspection was conducted and Certified True Copies (CTC) issued to candidates who are in the process of challenging the outcome of the presidential election where APC's presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu was declared winner and president-elect by INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
