The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu the winner of the governorship election in Lagos State.
He polled a total of 762,134 votes, defeating Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour party who scored 312,329 votes, followed by Abdul-Azeez Adediran popularly known as Jandor with 62,449 votes.
The result was announced around 1:15 am on Monday morning by the returning officer, Prof Adenike Temifayo-Oladiji, Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA.
The number of valid votes were 1,155,678; rejected votes – 17,953; total votes cast – 1,173,631 ; accredited votes – 1,182,620.

Before the declaration, Rhodes-Vivour called the election a sham, alleging “collusion between the ruling party and electoral officals.”
The LP flagbearer said what the the people witnessed was “a slap on the face of democracy” and everyone who came to vote for the LP on Saturday.
LP Chairman in Lagos, Mrs. Dayo Ekong had asked INEC to cancel the poll, citing electoral malpractices, intimidation, violence, among others.
The election was marked by Voter suppression, ethnic discrimination, political thuggery, and physical attacks on voters, electoral staff and security personnel alike.
At a time of the reports ,
state Commissioner of Police Idowu Owohunwa had assured Lagosians that security
personnel deployed for the election were responding promptly to the cases,
saying “ a lot of arrests” and “recoveries” had been made.
