Breaking: Atiku Abubakar And PDP Withdraws Court Case Against INEC, Gives Reason

 


The presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar and the People's Democratic Party have withdrawn their application against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Atiku Abubakar and the PDP had approached the court of Appeal to compel INEC to release the presidential election materials for inspection. 

Atiku Abubakar and the PDP are different entities challenging INEC's declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner of the February 25th presidential election; however, both have informed the court of Appeal about their decision to discontinue their application which seeks to mandate INEC to make available the materials the institution used for the conduct of the presidential election.

According to an unnamed insider of the Atiku's team who spoke to the Punch Newspaper, Atiku Abubakar and the PDP decided to discontinue the application after INEC released the presidential .

The statement reads: " However, before the application which was dated March 13 could be slated for hearing, INEC, on its own, called our legal team for a meeting. 

"It was at that meeting which held yesterday (Tuesday) that all the grey areas were sorted out, with INEC pledging to allow our agents to observe the process of sorting out some of the electoral materials we requested, especially the ballot papers.

"Since that was primarily our prayer in the fresh application we filed, we felt that it would not be necessary to proceed with the hearing. So, to save judicial time, we filed a notice of discontinuance which was accordingly granted.”
