The Church of England has announced its intention to look into the use of gender neutral terms in reference to God. The Church of England is considering the gender-neutral terms in order to reflect modern uses of pronouns and increased global awareness of gender identity. The Church further declared that there are no plans to abolish services or revise scripture, but gender-neutral pronouns will provide a new option for parishioners wanting to speak of God in a "non-gendered way." "Christians have recognised since ancient times that God is neither male nor female,” the church said in a statement.

The Church of England's Liturgical Commission is set to launch a new commission on the matter in the spring. Any potential alterations would have to be approved by synod, the Church’s decision-making body. The Church also stated that priests have advocated making the "Lord's Prayer" (Our Father...) a gender-neutral prayer in order to ensure inclusiveness and a sense of belonging for all worshippers.
