FG Shuts Down Higher Institutions Nationwide

 The Federal Government of Nigeria through the ministry of education, has declared a compulsory 3 week closure for all tertiary institutions in the country. This mandatory closure which takes place from 22nd February to 14th March is to enable students participate in the forthcoming general elections. The National Universities Commission (NUC) has addressed a letter to all Vice Chancellors of public tertiary institutions to this effect.

Deputy secretary(administration) of NUC , Chris Maiyaki, who represented the executive secretary, stated that the directive followed an instruction given by minister of education, Adamu Garba. In addition The NUC stated concern over the security of staff, students and property of institutions across the country as reason for the mandatory closure. The letter further offered renewed assurances  from the executive secretary in anticipation of cooperation and understanding.
