AMAA Founder Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Passes Away

 Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of the prestigious Africa Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA and The AMA Awards, has passed away. She died on 9th January, 2023 at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos after falling into a coma two days before. The news of Anyiam-Osigwe's passing was first confirmed by fellow filmmaker, Zik Zulu and the exact cause of her coma and eventual death is unconfirmed at the time of this report.

Peace Anyiam-Osigwe who was popularly referred to as "the queen of Nollywood films was the founder of the globally acclaimed film ceremony, Africa Movie Academy Awards. She pioneered the screening of Nollywood films at international film festivals and directed the first music video of hip-hop sensation, P-Square.  In 2012, she was bestowed a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contribution to the entertainment industry. 

Not much is known to the public of Ms Anyiam-Osigwe's personal life. She was reportedly separated from an unnamed husband for many years. May the industrious soul of Peace Anyiam-Osigwe rest in peace.
