The Portuguese FA has released an official statement on the speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo threatened to leave the Portuguese national team in Qatar after he did not make the starting eleven against Switzerland in their round of the sixteen match.

Ronaldo who started on the bench was said to be angry over his diminishing influence on and off the pitch for the Portuguese team. According to the report which has now been confirmed to be untrue, Ronaldo was angry over the Manchester United treatment he is getting at the national team.

Interestingly, the Portuguese FA has now disclosed that at no time did the superstar inform Portuguese national team coach, Ferdnando Santos that he wants to leave the national team.
