It was an agonising day for relatives and friends of Oluwabamise Ayanwola as she was laid to rest in Atan cemetery, Yaba Lagos, today Friday 16 December 2022 after her brutal murder at the hands of a BRT driver earlier in February. Bamise who was 22 years old at the time of her gruesome murder went missing after boarding a BRT heading to Oshodi from Chevron, Lekki, Lagos. Her friends and relatives raised public outcry whereupon Bamise's mutilated body was found with indications that she had been raped before she was murdered.
Unconfirmed reports further claimed that the body had been discovered with some parts missing. Bamise had also recorded and sent a video of herself while being a lone passenger on the bus to a friend who initially raised the alarm. The BRT driver, Andrew Ominnikoron whose bus the deceased boarded, is facing counts of conspiracy, rape and murder. However, the suspect has maintained that he had no connection with the fashion designer’s death but was only following instructions of her abductors who held he and Bamise hostage on the bus. The driver's trial which was adjourned on 12 December, 2022, will continue on 23rd January 2023.
