Serial presidential aspirant and former vice president of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who is also the presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 election, has disclosed that he is unlikely to quit aspiring to become Nigeria's president.
Atiku Abubakar who was the first runner up in the 2019 presidential election, is currently looking forward to finally realizing his long time ambition in 2023. Speaking to Financial Times, Atiku Abubakar noted that he will continue to pursue his presidential ambition as long as he remains healthy and strong.
" It is a life-long ambition and as long as I’m alive and strong and healthy, I will continue pursuing it,” Atiku said.
Many had before his recent disclosure suggested that he is unlikely to contest again if he eventually loses the 2023 presidential presidential election.
Atiku Abubakar goes into the February 25th presidential election with a fragmented party; PDP is currently grappling with infighting which resulted from Atiku Abubakar's emergence as the presidential candidate of the party as well as the claims of Northern politicians dominating the party's leadership positions.
The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who is the ringleader of the rebel Integrity Group of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) is staunchly backed by other governors: Ifeanyi Gburugburu Ugwuayi of Enugu State; Seyi Makinde of Oyo State; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state; Samuel Ortom of Benue.
