Many of us watched the film "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story " starring Evan is Peters but what many also don't know is the fact that Dahmer is a true crime story. It is the story of Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer who was born in 1960 and became a serial killer and sex offender. Dahmer who earned the nicknames "The Milwaukee Cannibal" and "The Milwaukee Monster" committed the murder and dismemberment of seventeen men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He also specialized in the dismemberment, decapitation and preservation of dead bodies as he did these to many of the people he murdered.
Dahmer who earned his nicknames after his place of birth Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was taught how to preserve animal bones by his research chemist father when he was 14 years old. Dahmer first discovered he was gay while in high school and that's when his fantasies which led him to commit his heinous crimes began. Dahmer committed his first murder in 1978, three weeks after his graduation. On June 18, Dahmer picked up a hitchhiker named Steven Mark Hicks, who was almost 19. He lured the youth to his house on the pretext of drinking. According to Dahmer, the sight of bare chested Steven Hicks stirred his sexual feelings.
After several hours of talking, drinking and listening to music, Hicks wanted to leave but Dahmer didn't want him too. Dahmer bludgeoned Hicks with a 10-pound (4.5 kg) dumbbell. He later stated he struck Hicks twice from behind with the dumbbell as Hicks sat upon a chair. When Hicks fell unconscious, Dahmer strangled him to death with the bar of the dumbbell, then stripped the clothes from Hicks' body before exploring his chest with his hands, then masturbating as he stood above the corpse. Hours later, Dahmer dragged the body to the basement. The following day, Dahmer dissected Hicks' body in his basement. He later buried the remains in a shallow grave in his backyard. Several weeks later, he unearthed the remains and dissolved the flesh in acid.

After the murder of Steven Hick, Dahmer went on to kill 16 more young boys and took care of their corpses in various ways from boiling the heads to cutting up and pounding the bodies. He was arrested on 23rd July, 1991 after which he gave a confession of all of his crimes to the police. Dahmer also waived his rights to a lawyer and on July 25, 1991, Dahmer was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment on 1st May, 1992.
The irony of Dahmer's story is the fact that for someone who committed such heinous crimes, his death was so ordinary. On November 28, 1994, Dahmer was beaten to death by Christopher Scarver, a fellow inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Portage, Wisconsin. Thus, the life of the gruesome monster came to an abrupt and ordinary end after spending less than 3 years in prison.
