Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi more known as Tems has emerged the first African to emerge the best new artiste at the Soul Train Awards.
In the 2022 edition of the awards aired on Saturday, 26 November, 2022, Tems beat CKay, Fireboy DML, Muni Long, Steve Lacy, Coco Jones, Dixson to the award.
The win means the Nigeria ln singer is the first African winner in this category.

Tems gained international prominence when she got featured on Wizkid's hit, 'Essential', a song that not only got nominated for the 2021 Grammy's but won the best collaboration at the 2021 Soul Train awards.
American singer, Beyoncer carted away 3 awards as she was the top winner at the event.
She won the album of the year with Renaissance, song of the year with 'Break My Soul' and best collaboration for "Make Me Say It Again, Girl' featuring Ronald Isley and The Isley Brothers.
