It was a life changing day for Australian mother Sarah Regan when she woke up to change her 9 month old daughter's diaper and she found it filled with blood. Thinking something horrible like cancer or a kidney infection, Sarah rushed her daughter Birdie, to the emergency room where doctors immediately carried out a battery of tests .Doctors carried out hormone tests and an X-ray on Birdie's wrist, where they found that her bones were advanced by 18 months and she was diagnosed with precocious puberty — before she could even walk or talk. 9 Month Old Birdie had just gotten her first period.
According to the doctors, precocious puberty is an extremely rare condition in children involving physical signs of sexual maturity developing too soon. The concerned mom says just wants her daughter to have a typical childhood. Regan has two other children who do not have the condition that Birdie has. There have been a few other reported cases of girls starting their periods before the age of 5. The world's youngest mother, Lina Marcela Medina de Jurado, a Peruvian mother who is now 89 years old, had her first child at the age of 5. Based on the medical assessments of her pregnancy, she was less than five years old when she became pregnant, which was possible due to precocious puberty.
