American singer and songwriter Mariah Carey who is also popularly referred to as "Queen of Christmas" has lost a bid to trademark the nickname "Queen of Christmas". The application was to gain a legal right to prevent other artists from using the title. Mariah Carey’s attempt to trademark the phrase “Queen of Christmas” was declined by the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Her attempt to also trademark the rights to the titles “Princess Christmas” and “Christmas Princess” were equally declined by the board. The application was declined because Maria Carey's company failed to respond to another singer's objection. Mariah Carey first filed for a trademark of the titles in March 2021.
