Malawi’s Vice-President, Saulos Klaus Chilima has been arrested by the country’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for receiving Sh34 million ($280,000) from British millionaire, Zuneth Sattar in exchange for government tenders.
According to ACB, the 49-year-old Malawian VP received the
bribe between March 2021 and October 2021, adding that Sattar gave out the
bribe to Chilima to allow his companies, Xavier Limited and Malachitte FZE, to
be awarded government tenders.

A quick check on Xavier, a private limited company's profile showed that it was
involved in “support activities”.
The spokesperson of Malawi’s Anti-Corruption Bureau, Egrita
Ndala in a statement on Friday, November 25 said:
“Dr Chilima will be taken to court where he is expected to be charged as
follows: three counts of corrupt practices by a public officer, two counts of
receiving advantage for using influence in regard to contracts, and one count of
failing to make a full report to a police officer or an officer of the bureau
that an advantage had been corruptly given”.
Founded on May 20, 2017, Xavier Limited has been enmeshed in a litany of controversies, with the Bolton, England headquartered company finally dissolved on October 13, 2020..
