After years of a beautiful relationship and raising a child together, Joe Melgoza and Esther decided to make their relationship official by tying the knot. What ought to have been a beautiful day turned into a nightmare when Joe was murdered by two ex-convict neighbours who tried to crash the wedding reception which took place in Chino, a city located in California.
The murderers who were identified as the Ramirez brothers, had recently been released from prison and even though they were Joe's "neighbours", no one in the neighbourhood knew them well. On the day of the wedding, while the reception was taking place, the Ramirez brothers forcefully attempted to crash the party. When they got kicked out of the venue, the brothers got furious and the groom Joe, stood to protect his family and guests by personally leading these brothers away from the reception and the guests.

This attempt at being a peacemaker cost Joe Melgoza his life because just as he led the intruders away from the crowd, the brothers became angry at being turned away and beat up the groom until they eventually killed him. His own wedding party became Joe's funeral. The Ramirez brothers were shortly afterwards, arrested and jailed by the local police.
