Soludo Slams 100k Burial/Poster Levy on Residents

 Governor of Anambra state, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has imposed a 100,000 naira levy on residents of Anambra state. The levy reportedly covers the placement of burial posters, announcements and religious banners in the state. The governor revealed that anyone intending to put up burial posters in part of the state must pay the levy which covers a period of two weeks.

In a letter addressed to the National President, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, (ASATU) by the Managing Director and Chief Executive, Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA), Mr Tony ujubuonu  titled: "Regulation of ceremonial adverts" explained that the agency would work in partnership with ASATU to recover the taxes as sources of internally generated revenue IGR and to curb menace of 'non-commercial adverts' in the state.  The letter also stated that any billboard or poster left standing after the duration of the licensed period, will attract a penalty in the sum of the amount initially paid. This penalty is paid weekly.

The government further revealed that these materials tend to deface the environment and pose a threat to the aesthetics of the communities. Hence, the need for the new regulations mandating use of these materials in a "neat and orderly" manner. According to the government of Anambra state, the new regulation is in line with its aim of building a prosperous and smart city.
