While many Nigerians were turning up in various of Lagos state in a march organised in support of the Labour Party's presidential aspirant Mr Peter Obi, the Lagos State Governor and his cabinet wallowed in humiliation as citizens failed to turn up at this year's event organised in commemoration of the October 1st Independence Day Celebration which holds yearly at the Lagos National Stadium in Surulere.

Photos circulating the internet reveal empty seats and just a handful of people at the stadium. The pavilions at the large stadium were mostly left unoccupied as Lagosians shunned the occasion. Corp members and the Boys Brigade band who had been geared to serenade Lagosians to lyrical compositions in honour of the celebration were heavily disappointed at disastrous turn out. Nigerians have declared the empty stadium as a sign that citizens are immensely tired of the government and its empty promises and as such, feel no pride whatsoever in commemorating the independence day celebration of a rapidly failing country.
