Popular comedian Bright Okpocha better known as Basketmouth has informed the public of his decision to change his stage name from Basketmouth to 'Onyekwere'. The comedian revealed that the change of name was necessitated by the ongoing political campaign and forthcoming elections. He stated that some politicians "will be talking anyhow" during this season and in the process, earn themselves the name "Basketmouth"on social media.
Basketmouth who did not want his name associated with such talkative politicians, hence decided to change his stage name to 'Onyekwere'. The comedian however, revealed that the change of name is temporary and will only be applicable until after the 2023 elections. He urged the general public, clients and debtors to take note of this new development.
Basketmouth is an ace comedian who has organised popular stand-up comedy concerts like Basketmouth Uncensored across the globe. In 2005 and 2006, Basketmouth won the National Comedy Award and the awards for Best Stand-up Comedian of the Year. He was nominated at the 2021 maiden edition of The Humour Awards Academy alongside fellow comedian Oga Sabinus.
