Following the marketing strategy asking people to purchase his perfume named Burnt Hair in order to help him buy the social media app Twitter, world's richest man Elon Musk has indeed purchased Twitter. Elon Musk completed his $44bn takeover of Twitter, according to a filing with the US government. After the acquisition, former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, was sacked and reportedly escorted out the premises by security operatives. A number of top executives were also fired alongside the erstwhile CEO.

Elon Musk has revealed that he would reverse bans on suspended users, which include former US President Donald Trump, who was excluded from the app following the Capitol riot in January 2021. Mr Musk described the ban of former president Trump as "foolish". The takeover has generated discussion among Twitter users over what the platform will look like under Elon Musk's ownership. In addition to being the world's richest person with a net worth of $250bn, Elon Musk is a controversial figure as a result of his outspoken intervention in many social and political matters.
