Former Governor of Lagos state and current Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has revealed that the second Niger Bridge has been completed. The minister confirmed the completion of the bridge at a press briefing to present the President Muhammadu Buhari’ scorecard in Abuja on Wednesday 19th October, 2022. Fashola also reassured that the bridge will soon be open to the public as the only delay was caused by the ongoing construction of the link road which had been slowed as a result of the flood situation in the area.

In the Minister's words: “I can confirm that the second Niger bridge itself is finished. People can walk through the bridge now unimpeded. What remains is the four-kilometer link road on the Asaba side." Upon completion, the 2nd Niger Bridge will ease traffic flow, improve road safety, and create greater opportunities for local residents by advancing the commercial viability of the immediate area and regenerating economic life. The construction of this bridge which is being handled by the Julius Berger Engineering Company, has been on for a total of 42 months.
