Actor, model, singer, voiceover artist and former co-host of MTN Project Fame, Joseph Benjamin has revealed that he left the Nigerian entertainment scene for nearly six in other to grow his career and discover other dimensions to his job and himself. He also firmly reiterated that it had been a personal decision. Joseph Benjamin disclosed this reason to Big Brother Naija ex-housemate and current host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on an episode of the show Rubbin' Minds.
Rumours reportedly stated that Joseph Benjamin had disappeared from Nollywood movies because he had receive a great deal of negative backlash for alleged domestic violence on his ex-wife before their divorce in 2012. While on hiatus from Nollywood, Joseph Benjamin had featured in a handful of Hollywood films. The actor relocated to the US in 2016.

Joseph Benjamin who hails from Kogi state Nigeria, is sometimes erroneously identified as a Ghanaian by fans. He won the African Actor of the Year award at the 2012 African Film Awards. For his role in Married but Living Single, Joseph Benjamin won the best lead actor at the 2012 Best of Nollywood Awards. He is probably best known for co-hosting MTN Project Fame West Africa between 2009 and 2016, alongside Adora Oleh.
