In a press release published 8 September 2022, Buckingham Palace has revealed that Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II is under medical supervision upon recommendation from her doctors. The Palace also indicated the the Queen remains comfortable at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. Immediate family travelled to keep the Queen company, including Prince Charles, heir apparent to the British throne.
This announcement came a day after the 96-year-old monarch cancelled a meeting of her Privy Council and was told to rest. Queen Elizabeth II who is Britain's longest-reigning sovereign and the world’s oldest monarch, has suffered what Buckingham Palace has called “episodic mobility problems” since the end of 2021.

On Tuesday 6 September, The Queen presided over the ceremonial handover of power to new United Kingdom Prime Minister Liz Truss at her summer residence at Balmoral Castle. Truss posted on Twitter: “The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime”.
"My thoughts – and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom – are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time.”
