In the early hours of Sunday 4th September 2022, at about 3:00am, a 7 storey building still under construction reportedly collapsed in Oba Idowu Oniru street, Lekki, Lagos. Further reports stated that six people were trapped inside the building while two bodies had already been recovered by NEMA and LASEMA operatives.
Reacting to the unfortunate news, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that upon arrival, it was discovered that the collapsed building was still under construction. In his words: “No injury sustained. However, about six people are reported to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure. The agency’s heavy duty equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated Lagos State Response plan. The operation is ongoing."

Further reports allege that the collapsed building had been sealed by the government until recently when the developer removed the government's official seal and commenced construction.
