Tinubu And Shettima Might Be Disqualified In 2023 According To New Electoral Law

Bola Ahmed Tinubu's presidential ambition risks being jeopardized by his choice of a running mate who inadvertently has breached the new electoral Act.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno state and a serving senator representing Borno Central in the 9th Senate Assembly.

Shettima, a Muslim by faith emerged Bola Ahmed Tinubu's running mate against the intense criticism from Nigerians who argued that the All Progressive Congress (APC) Muslim-muslim ticket amounted to insensitivity to Nigeria's religious diversity and sentiment.

However, in line with the 2022 Electoral Act, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima ticket might be disqualified; this is because, the new electoral Act in its nomination related offenses, forbids a candidate from being nominated for more than one Constituency in a particular election.

Hence, Kashim Shettima who before his emergence as Tinubu's running mate, was nominated for the Borno Central Senatorial district, might render Tinubu/Shettima presidential ticket illegal.
