Kobe Bryant's widow Vanessa Bryant has been awarded $16m (£13.6m) in damages over leaked graphic photos of the helicopter crash that killed the US basketball star and his daughter Gianna, in January, 2020. After deliberations that lasted over three hours, the jury found the Los Angeles County Sheriff and Fire Departments liable for infringing on the constitutional rights of Vanessa Bryant.

Immediately after the verdict was pronounced, Vanessa Bryant hugged her attorneys. As she continued to cry, Bryant then tearfully embraced her daughter Natalia in the front row. She left the courthouse without making a statement, but did post a picture of her, Kobe Bryant and their daughter Gianna on Instagram with the caption: "All for you! I love you! JUSTICE for Kobe and Gigi!". Coincidentally, Los Angeles has named Wednesday, August 24, as "Kobe Bryant Day" to honour the Los Angeles Lakers star's two jersey numbers, 8 and 24, that he wore during his NBA career.
