On Thursday 4th August, 2022, an Uyo High Court sentenced Uduak Akpan to death by hanging for the murder of Iniobong Umoren. Iniobong Umoren, a new graduate of the University of Uyo was brutally murdered by Uduak Akpan after he lured her to a secret location in the guise of a job interview on 29th April, 2021. He was arrested alongside his father, Frank Akpan and sister Anwan Bassey. Uduak's father and sister were however discharged and acquitted by the court.

Unconfirmed sources have it that shortly after he was given a death sentence, Uduak Akpan tried to run away from the court room but was restrained by officers of the law present in the court room. Many Nigerians have expressed their joy at the fact that even though Ini lost her life, justice has been served to her murderer. May Iniobong Umoren's soul find rest.
