After a three hour meeting which held between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Tuesday, 16 August 2022, the Union and the federal government have both debunked the news that the meeting ended in a deadlock. The federal government claims that ASUU's demand to be paid salaries for the duration of the six month strike action is stalling negotiations.

The Federal government insisted that ASUU'S demand for salary backlogs to be paid is unreasonable and cannot be conceded to. Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, disclosed this to journalists at the 47th session of the State House Ministerial Media Briefing organized by the Presidential Communications Team at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. Adamu also added that the students ought to sue ASUU and claim damages for the wasted time and other damages incurred as a result of the union's prolonged strike action.
