A 23 year old female resident of Ogun state, Mary Olatayo, has sold her three-week-old baby for N600,000. It was also reported that the young mother also worked the streets as a call girl. Mary was arrested by the Ogun state police following a missing persons complaint brought by the baby's father at the Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters, Ogun State.The baby's father told the police that he had been involved in a relationship with the accused which led to a pregnancy and the baby in question.

The unnamed father further disclosed that when Mary got pregnant, he rented an apartment for her where she lived till she gave birth to a baby boy. According to him, Olatayo suddenly disappeared with the baby from the rented apartment three weeks after delivery. Mary was found in a rundown hotel by members of the Ogun state police command. Upob interrogation, Mary Olatayo confessed to the police that she has sold the baby to someone in Anambra State at the rate of six hundred thousand naira. She confessed that it was her friend, Chioma Esther Ogbonna, who led her to the buyer in that state and that they had both shared the money equally. The accomplice, Chioma Esther Ogbonna was immediately arrested. The police has declared that every legal step will be taken in order to recover the sold infant.
