Eko Bridge: Lagos State Government Commences Work

The Lagos State Government has announced via the official Facebook page of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, that work has begun in earnest on the Eko bridge despite the heavy damage done to the bridge as a result of the fire outbreak which occurred on 23 March, 2022.

The Governor posted via his official Facebook page that "Fresh castings which will support the pillars holding the bridge are currently being worked on, in order to ensure the safety of residents plying the bridge. With the pace with which the construction workers are going, we are optimistic that deadlines for the completion of the bridge will be met."

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu further stated that security personnel were available to ensure full compliance to the "no market" instruction beneath the bridge. This measure was taken to prevent a recurrence of the sad incident that occurred in March. The Eko bridge is the shortest of the three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the mainland. The bridge starts from Ijora on the mainland and ends at Apongbon, Lagos Island.
