Dr. Innocent Barikor, the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in Rivers State, has narrowly escaped being killed in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
But his police orderly was not lucky as the dare devil gunmen killed him on the spot.
According to reports, Barikor had on Tuesday night left his office in the GRA for a meeting in an undisclosed location oblivious of the fact that some gunmen were waiting for him outside.

An eyewitness who refused to be named said the gunmen, on sighting Barikor opened fire.
In his words:
“Barikor escaped by the whiskers but his police orderly was not fortunate because the bullets hit and killed him on the spot.”
The Deputy Publicity Secretary of APC in Rivers State, Darlington Nwauju, while confirming the attack, called for a thorough investigation into the incident, while charging the Inspector-General of Police to wade into the matter.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSCP Grace Iringe-Koko, when contacted, said it was not a case of assassination.
In her words:
“It was not an assassination. Actually a policeman was shot. I think he was the target because they saw him with a rifle. Nothing happened to the candidate. We are investigating the incident and the place has been surrounded”.
