After days of anticipation and lobbying by Governors of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to emerge the running mate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the 2023 presidential election, the wait is now over.
It's understood that the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, Emmanuel Udom and governor Nyesom Wike have had their eyes on the vice presidential position.
The spokesperson of the Delta State governor had a few days ago boasted that only God could stop his principal from emerging Atiku's running mate.
The switch of Peter Obi from PDP to the Labour party made it more difficult for the party to choose a credible person with wide acceptability and impeccable record as Peter Obi to fly the presidential flag of the party alongside with Atiku Abubakar. Recall that Peter Obi was Atiku's running mate in the 2019 presidential election; an election which they lost to the incumbent president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
There was also report of Atiku Abubakar offering the position to the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. However, Atiku's spokesperson, Paul Ibe while in a chat with the Punch described the report as false.
Interestingly, PDP's leadership from more than four-hour meeting with the stakeholders of the party which comprised the states' governors of the party as well as other elected office holders of the party, have now considered the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike worthy of the position.
Recall that Nyesom Wike was the first runner-up in the People's Democratic Party's presidential primary election. Atiku Abubakar needed the selfless intervention of governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal to win the presidential primary election at the expense of Wike.

Wike's loyalty to the party, his infrastructural revolution in Rivers State as well as his overwhelming Political influence across states of the Federation, placed him ahead of his mates in their pecking order.
