Atiku Abubakar Finally Speaks On Choosing Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala As His Running Mate

The candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, has reacted to the report that former Nigerian minister and the current Director General of World Trade Organization, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala declined to be his running mate.

However, Atiku's spokesperson, Paul Ibe while in a chat with the Punch, disclosed that such an offer was not made to Okonjo-Iweala. He added that Atiku Abubakar has intensified his consultation to come up with a candidate that will complement his vision for Nigeria and will be very acceptable by the Nigerian populace.

He said: “There is nothing like that; he has stepped up his consultations to search for a candidate that will be acceptable and complement him.”

Notably, among those at the forefront of emerging Atiku's running mate is the first runner-up in the People's Democratic Party's presidential primary election and governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. It's understood that Nyesom Wike has the backing of some southeast and South-south PDP governors who believe that his longstanding contribution to the party should be rewarded in that guise.
