The media space was inundated with reports that Senate President, Ahmed Lawan was picked as the consensus candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu after the meeting of the party’s NWC, announced the adoption of the Yobe State politician as the consensus candidate of the party to the consternation of party members and NWC members who claimed they were not privy to the arrangement.
Buhari while meeting with some APC governors from the North at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, debunked that the presidency was privy to the arrangement as alleged by Adamu.

The President, according to sources at the meeting, distanced himself from the alleged endorsement of Lawan by the APC’s National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

The President was reported to have told the Governors that consultations should be broadened to ensure that a candidate with popular appeal emerges as the consensus candidate before the commencement of the Convention on Tuesday.
