Kanayo O. Kanayo Tells How He Nearly Committed Suicide

  

Veteran actor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, while in a chat with vanguard Newspaper, narrated that he nearly committed suicide in Abakpa, Enugu State. 

The  actor revealed that he wanted jumping from Abakpa bridge in Enugu into the river while he was hawking agidi so as to end his suffering. 

He narrated that his sister in-law whom he lived with when he was younger, mistreated him and was inconsiderate of his age in giving him some responsibilities.

The actor further narrated that he was born into a poor family; hence, the reason he has striven to ensure none of his children goes through the suffering he went through.

In his words:“If you are familiar with Enugu State, I used to hawk agidi from New Haven to Abakpa, a long distance and one day while I was crossing Abakpa bridge, I looked into the deep water when a voice urged me to jump into the water and end my suffering.

“I was a small boy carrying this heavy thing on my head. But I did not listen to that voice and luckily for me, I finished selling all agidi.

“My brother’s wife, whom I lived within those days in Enugu, did not want to know your age; she would give me dozens of agidi on my head, and God save me if I returned home with some unsold items with the kind of beating I would receive that day.

“I have gone through the thick and thin of life. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. But I want to make sure that my children don’t go back to where I started from.” He said.
